PuraTouch doorsets are the best choice for environments where hygiene is a priority. Correctly specified, they will also support the maintenance of sterile conditions.

They can be laminated with timber lippings or fully encapsulated to give excellent resistance to microbial penetration. For a finishing touch, we can also apply logos and signage to your doors in-house so what you receive is complete at the point of fitting.

Highest standards

You can choose products which meet specific standards for resistance to impact and corrosion or are certified for low emissions.

For complete peace of mind, laminated and encapsulated doorsets (including ironmongery) can be coated in our exclusive PuraTouch+TM solution. This offers permanent resistance to 99.9% of bacteria and has been tested in conjunction with coronavirus to ISO21702:2019. It also maintains the fire ratings of any surface to which it is applied.

Noise reduction requirements can easily be combined with hygiene performance. When combined with fire ratings it is possible to create some of the highest-performing doors available.

Laminates

PuraTouch high-pressure laminates are low maintenance, as their smooth surfaces and high level of resistance to impact offer increased longevity and durable good looks.

Encapsulated doorsets

Post-formed, encapsulated doors are widely used in the healthcare, laboratory, education and retail sectors, and where the maintenance of sterile conditions is critical. Doors can be faced full height or part-way up, with contrasting finishes to other exposed areas of the door faces. Fully-encapsulated doors and frames provide the best resistance to infection.

Other products, such as wall sheets, handrails, corner and edge guards, are available to complete the protection package requirements in a coordinated manner.

A variety of framing options is available. Sections of the most popular options are shown below.

We can supply matching skirting or, at the other end of the scale, we also have frameless options.

Frames can be supplied assembled or flat-packed. They can be sent with the door pre-hung in them or separately in advance to support site schedules.

Frame options

Frame materials

All our timber frame materials can be encapsulated. Restrictions as to the use of certain frame materials may apply if additional requirements such as higher dB or fire ratings are included, see below.

Redwood
Mid-range option for internal doors. It is our most popular option for painted doors, although it can be encapsulated, stained or lacquered. Suitable for fire-rated and acoustic doorsets.

Hardwood
Excellent for durability and security. A variety of species is available. We recommend lacquer or stain to allow the beauty of the wood to be seen, although it can be encapsulated. Suitable for fire-rated, acoustic and secure doorsets.

MDF
A cost-effective solution providing a smooth surface that gives the best finish for painted doors. It can also be encapsulated or veneer-wrapped. Suitable for fire-rated doors.

Steel
Steel frames are available for any door and supplied with hardware or factory-prepared for it. Available coated or ready-to-coat.

All our timber is FSC certified. If required, please ask for chain of custody certification when requesting a quote.
Vision panels and side/over screens can help to increase visibility, distribute light and enhance design. In certain locations, such as entrances, they are a legal requirement with defined minimum sizes (see below).

Some of our most popular vision panel styles are shown here but we can make panels to any size and shape. If you require a hygiene door that also has fire and/or sound ratings there may be some restrictions but we will guide you through the requirements to make sure these are maintained.

Screens

Bespoke panels over or to the side of a door can be seamlessly integrated. They may be filled with glass or designer panels to complement styling of the door or room. We will advise on how to incorporate these to maintain dB ratings.

Glass Types

Laminated: two sheets of glass with a PVB (non-fire-rated) or intumescent layer in the middle. May crack under pressure but mostly sticks to the central layer and remains in one piece.
Tempered: Heat-treated to give resistance to impact; where breakage does occur it shatters into tiny pieces.

Fire ratings

Fire ratings are available as follows:

Glass finishes

Glass can be supplied with a variety of finishes. Combinations of these finishes can be used, for example to offer privacy in lower panels and visibility in higher panels

Privacy

Where privacy is required we offer a range of choices. We recommend these options but can incorporate alternatives as required.

Vision panels in entrance doors

These are governed by the Government’s Building Regulations parts M (Access to buildings) and K (Protection from falling, collision and impact). This diagram shows the minimum requirements for vision panels in entrance doors.

Beading

There are two main types of beading for vision panels: bolection and flush. Beading is supplied in hardwood species, with finish to complement the door. Fully encapsulated doors can be supplied with an encapsulated beading. When using flush beading with laminates it is also necessary to use radius corners to prevent the laminate from cracking. Examples here are shown as for an FD60 door, with intumescent strips between the beading and the glass.

Doors can be finished to suit your requirements and we can support you in the co-ordination of finishes across your whole project. Some of our most popular options are shown below and we can source many others. For a true representation of colour or finish, please ask us for a sample.

For best resistance to microbial penetration, full encapsulation is the best option, although excellent hygiene results can be achieved with laminates, especially when coated in PuraTouch+TM solution, which offers permanent resistance to 99.9% of bacteria and has been tested in conjunction with coronavirus to ISO21702:2019.

Laminates

A durable, scratch-and damage-resistant alternative to wood, with particular suitability for hygiene settings when fully encapsulated. Matching finishes can be achieved on frames.

Depending on the location and purpose of the door, variable laminate coverage may be desired. Dorplan can meet any requirement from part-faced to full encapsulation. Full encapsulation offers joint-free post-formed panels, which give the best resistance to infection and moisture. This makes it ideally suited to sterile or high-moisture environments such as laboratories, hospitals and bathrooms.

We use a range of laminate suppliers, including Formica and Egger, who between them offer almost every conceivable colour, pattern and texture.

The range of laminate options available is so extensive that the only limit is your imagination. Designs are complemented by textures to achieve an authentic feel to the materials represented. Shown below are just a few of the myriad choices available: (images courtesy of Egger)

Wood effect: a huge selection of timber types is available. This is supported by a range of wood grain textures that can be matched to timber types to give a natural feel.

Colour: A rainbow of colours can be used to complement any scheme in hues from subtle pastels to vibrant primary colours.

Many other finishes are available, including industrial, geological and metallic effects, and textiles or patterns. They can be enhanced with textures that complement the design and add authenticity to the finish.

Note that we do not recommend highly-textured surfaces in hygiene settings.
